Amol Khanapurkar

“A true artist is born not made, and the Guru is the one who polishes an uncut diamond to help it shine in all its brilliance.” Amol was born in Mumbai, India to a family of music lovers. His deep seated passion for music was instilled in him by his father, Shri Jayant Khanapurkar. His guru, Pt. Sadashiv Pawar is a renowned tabla player who is responsible for making Amol the fine artiste he is today. It is a prestigious lineage that has benefited Amol and helps him flawlessly incorporate different styles into his performances.

The talent within was recognized with Amol giving stage performances from an early age of 3. However, Amol gives credit for his outstanding success to his school and college teachers and professors who always encouraged and supported his decisions to participate at various competitions and functions.

Amol's love for Tabla fueled his thirst for delving deeper into the realms of music and today, along with being in demand for his Tabla performances, he is also an accomplished vocalist, a keyboardist and a published composer. His musical repertoire extends beyond Indian classical and light music to Jazz, World and Fusion music.

From his high school days through college, recognition for his tabla skills and his vocal prowess has been abundant. He has had the honor of accompanying such luminaries as Padmabhushan Ustad Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan, Padmabhushan Pandita Dr. Prabha Atre, Dr. Sushila Rani Patel, Smt. Arati Ankalikar, Smt. Neela Bhagwat, and Shri Zunain Khan amongst others. A few years ago, he had the rare opportunity to accompany Padmavibhushan Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia along with his students, on the eve of Janmashthami- an evening which is etched into his memory for time immemorial. The joy of performing with such maestros where music was taken onto a different dimension was a breathtaking experience for Amol.
